There Is a Perfect Age to Have a Kid, Experts Say

How'd they come up with that number?

It’s been determined — there is a perfect age to have a baby.

The Wall Street Journal reports that 32 is the most ideal time; 2016 fertility data from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, states, “The fecundity of women decreases gradually but significantly beginning approximately at age 32 years and decreases more rapidly after age 37 years.”

The research says that your chances of getting pregnant start to rapidly decline 32, even faster after 37.

“If you want to have children, it’s best to start before the age of 32, according to fertility data from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Apparently, 36 is the age that women want to look, based on the photos they bring in, says New York City-based dermatologist Gervaise Gerstner.”

Psychology Today puts the “perfect” age even younger at 26.

“The late teens or early twenties are best biologically, according to John Mirowsky, a sociologist at the University of Texas at Austin. That’s when oocytes are fresh and the body’s reproductive and other systems are at a youthful peak. Women in their twenties are least likely to have developed chronic health problems that would put them or their babies at risk, and they have the lowest rates of miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, and infertility. But early pregnancy doesn’t work well in today’s society, which is organized around smaller families and more full-time employment for women. If pregnancy occurs too early, social difficulties often follow…Even the early twenties seems too young, in some circles, to have a baby — even when the mother is married and has a college degree.

“Women who had had babies after age 35, Alonzo found, had higher systolic blood pressure, higher blood glucose, and poorer health as assessed by a physician, and poorer mobility later in life than women who had had all their babies before 35.”
