Were These the Two Things That Attracted David Foster to Katharine McPhee 12 Years Ago?
The music producer explains the common denominator in their May-December romance.
David Foster and Katharine McPhee's engagement has turned heads due to their 34-year age difference. It will be the fifth marriage for the 68-year-old songwriter, whose last wife was The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum Yolanda Hadid, and the second for Katharine, 34, who first met David in 2006 when she was 21 years old and fresh off of American Idol.
Still, some might wonder what draws them together?
“She has a great sense of humor, and we have musicality,” David told Us Weekly at Sunday's Breakthrough Prize event in Mountain View, CA. “It’s our common denominator. And we’ve known each other for 12 years, too.”
Well, you know what they say about the couple that makes beautiful music together... (OK, they don't say anything but you can guess where we're going here.) There are, however, several studies that point to the importance of laughter in any successful relationship.
In case you're not caught up on his extended family, Katharine is close in age to his five grown daughters (and even younger than some of them), and a few have been very public about their love for their future stepmother.
This is certainly not the first or last May-December romance in Hollywood, and many go on to have real staying power.
