Why Are Meghan Markle’s Bridesmaids for the Royal Wedding All Children?

We wondered why not her girlfriends but then we looked back at Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding...

Meghan Markle has decided not to choose between her many friends and has handed over bridesmaids duties to children.

So who are they? And why children?

Her niece, Kate Middleton and Prince William’s daughter, Princess Charlotte, is one of the six named. (Her brother Prince George, will be a a page boy.)

Prince Harry's goddaughter, Florence van Cutsem, 3, is the daughter of Major Nicholas and Alice van Cutsem.

Remi Litt, 6, and Rylan Litt, 7, the daughters of Benita and Darren Litt, who Meghan spent her 2016 Christmas with. The girls are her goddaughters.

Ivy Mulroney, 4, the daughter of the bride's best friend Jessica Mulroney. (Ivy's twin brothers John and Brian are page boys.)

Zalie Warren, 2, the youngest bridesmaid, is the daughter of Zoe and Jake Warren and is Prince Harry's goddaughter.

While traditionally, younger members of the family serve as bridesmaids in the U.K. (and page boys which is another trend that hasn't come stateside), Meghan’s choice to have no adults at all was quite unusual.

But a Kensington Palace spokesman said the bride-to-be couldn’t decide which friends to pick, and didn’t want to make anyone feel less special than anyone else.

“She has a very close knit group of friends and did not want to choose one over the other,” said the statement.
