Seth Meyers thought he had a funny story when his first son Ashe was almost born in an Uber ride to the airport back in 2016.
"Well move over, that story!" the Late Night with Seth Meyers host told his audience on Monday night after his wife, Alexi Ashe, had their second son Axel Strahl Meyers in the lobby of their apartment building earlier that day.
Luckily, their doula was with them when Alexi started going into labor, but the baby came before Seth could finish a call to 911.
"I called 911 and over the course of a minute conversation, I said, ‘We’re about to have a baby, we’re having a baby, we had a baby,’" he shared.
Alexi gave birth while still clothed and Seth said it looked like a "woman hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants," laughing a little at the thought.
Soon, the New York Fire Department showed up to stabilize Alexi, give her oxygen and cut the umbilical cord. They went to the hospital and Axel was found to be a healthy newborn. Seth was still obviously in shock that this all happened in the lobby of their building, which they just moved into at the end of last year.
"I'm so glad that we are already co-op approved, 'cause I don't know," he joked.
