Episode 8: What They Wore

Though it wasn't her hook, "Paint This Club With Amazing" has some of Sonyae's signature swagger -- particularly her vocals on the hook. The song was a winner, proof that Sonyae does, in fact, know her gays.

When the judges passed on her hook "Next Ex," Sonyae bunked up with Nick, Jackie, and Melissa for a road trip co-write. The resulting song, "The Road Is Where My Heart Is," ended up on the chopping block, but Sonyae's contributions kept her in the game for another week.

Sonyae came out of the gate with a polarizing track. With her stunner shades and her hip hop attitude, her "Love It Or Hate It" hook was confident and catchy. Unfortunately the judges didn't love the fully realized track, but Sonyae was still beloved enough to make it to another week.

What's Sonyae Elise's super power? Making those bad boys weep, at least according to her winning rap hook and final song, "Miss Make the Boys Cry." The task blending of rock and rap forced Sonyae to strategically choose troublemaker Nick, but in the end their partnership made some pretty sweet music.

So what if some of the other songwriters were actually in love with each other? Sonyae's touching hook and track "Love Me to Life"  bested real life lovebirds Johnny and Jes' efforts and impressed, not just the regular tough critics (Jewel, Kara, and Keith), but also OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder.

Sonyae had no problems contributing to Scotty's hook for Jewel's "Kiss the Flame" challenge. The task of writing a song about life outside of the closet was no issues, since Sonyae "loves the gays," making writing "Reign" a snap.

Sonyae tried to play it country to contribute to "Say It Back," Jackie's hook from the risk-taking challenge. The song ended up being a big risk. . .with Jackie going home for its inauthentic feeling.

Writing a Beyonce-worthy track is no easy task, so when Brian and Sonyae teamed up to create a track worthy of Mrs. Jay-Z they had their work cut out of them. However their song, "Stranger to Love" trounced the competition and impressed the judges with its radio ready vibe.

You can't argue with popularity. Sonyae's pop song "Exit" had high schoolers inventing signature dance moves and grooving in the bleachers -- giving her the clear win.
