Lindsay Explains Why She & Carl Pay $13K Per Month to Rent Instead of Buying an Apartment
Summer House’s Lindsay Hubbard shared why “it’s really not that crazy” that she and Carl Radke spend $13,000 a month on their NYC rental apartment.
On the April 17 episode of Summer House, Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke hosted a housewarming party at their gorgeous Manhattan apartment (take a tour in the video above). While their castmates were beyond impressed with their home, dubbed “Rad House,” one detail in particular stopped a few of them in their tracks.
As Paige DeSorbo, Gabby Prescod, Samantha Feher, and Ciara Miller were chatting on Lindsay and Carl’s massive balcony, Paige casually mentioned that the couple is paying $13,000 in monthly rent for the apartment. While Gabby gasped, Samantha asked, “I’m sorry, what? It’s 13?” and Ciara quipped, “Where’s the ring, for $13,000?”
When Lindsay appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen later that night after the episode aired, the titular host had a follow-up question about her and Carl’s decision to rent: “Have you guys considered buying a place instead of renting?”
“Yes, and we talked about this at the [Season 6] reunion,” Lindsay responded. “So the market was so extraordinarily awful last year, and we wanted to move in [together]. COVID prices, they shot down, and then they all of a sudden inflated. The market in New York has just been tough.”
“If you break $13,000 apart, it’s $6,500 a person, which is really only $200 more than what I was paying at my last apartment,” she continued. “OK, so it’s really not that crazy from my last apartment.”
As Lindsay mentioned, she and Carl opened up about their potential real estate plans during the Season 6 reunion. “We’re kind of like in that stage where we’re trying to figure out do we rent and then buy a house, perhaps in the Hamptons, or do we buy in the city?” Lindsay said at the time, later adding, “There’s a lot of factors that go into it.”
