Why Actual Mexicans Never Order This at a Mexican Restaurant, According to Texicanas' Karla Ramirez
Texicanas' Karla Ramirez spilled the beans on the Mexican menu item that actual Mexicans don't order.
In Episode 1 of Texicanas, we learned something very interesting. In the clip above, Karla Ramirez told a Texan friend: "We don't celebrate [Cinco de Mayo]." And in a recent chat with The Feast, the San Antonio mom spilled another secret about something actual Mexicans don't really do.
"Enchiladas, which a lot of [restaurants] have, can be very authentic or not at all. So, it's really hard to go to a restaurant and order enchiladas and be content," she told us. It sounds like Karla, for one, would rather make the classic Mexican meal at home — and she also gave us some insight on what else she whips up for her family.
With a Greek hubby, the Brownsville, Texas native has found clever ways to incorporate Mediterranean flavors into her Mexican cooking. "We eat a lot of tzatziki at home, which is like Greek yogurt and cucumber. And it's so healthy, so fresh, and that goes with every single thing that we eat," she told us. "I even make tacos with tzatziki."
