11 Chic White Looks You Need to Wear This Fall

Who says you can't wear white after Labor Day? Live dangerously and flaunt these white-hot looks.

By Alesandra Dubin

Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer, and that means switching wardrobe gears from barely there getups toward more coverage against the chillier air (and mentally shifting away from summer’s perma-vacay mindset, too).

Of course, the age-old wardrobe rule about not wearing white after Labor Day has been long challenged. (Even the Emily Post Institute, citing the seasonal flight of society from cities to resort areas, suggests the outmoded practice is dead!) Here are our favorite picks — for men and women — for skirting that passé rule and flaunting white-hot looks clear into autumn.

Cobalt Jacket, Rebecca Minkoff, $348

A white blazer pulls together anything underneath, and is the perfect piece to wear from the office straight to drinks. This polished version has pockets and a single-button closure for a slightly more boyish take.

Seduction Wool and Lace Wrap Dress, DVF, $598

You can’t go wrong when you rock the dress that opened DVF’s fall 2015 show. The wool jersey frock includes contrast black details, including a lace-inset back that screams “notice me.” Wear it with the front pleats either shown or hidden.

Ray-Ban Wayfarer Sunglasses, Ray-Ban, $140

There are few styles more timeless, nor more right for all-season wear, than the classic Wayfarer sunnies. Bonus points for a unisex shape you can share with your bae!

Tory Burch Frances Pebbled Leather Saddle Bag, Tory Burch, $450

The “New Ivory” shade is the right white for any season. Prim top handles offset a retro ‘70s vibe; wear the additional cross-body strap or take it off. It’s super functional and has multiple interior pockets to keep a mobile phone — and whatever else — handy.

Protector C Jacket, Theory, $250

This zip-front jacket is the epitome of clean and streamlined. Pockets make it functional, as does the fabric that claims to have odor-repelling, quick-dry, and stain-resistant properties.

Wade Turtleneck, Rage & Bone, $395

There’s nary a hint of summertime style in this chunky knit turtleneck sweater in “Turtledove” white for cooler weather. Contrast stitching links the side seams, inseams, armholes, and center back for a little je ne sais quoi.

Haute Hippie Floral Laser-Cut Leather Jacket, Bergdorf Goodman, $995

The asymmetrical cut and bold floral-pattered laser cutouts make this jacket the can’t-miss statement piece in the room; the lambskin makes it a practical pick for warmth on cooler fall days.

Marc Jacobs’ Brogues, Stylebop, $655

For a business engagement or a hot date, pair these glossy white patent leather brogues with a slim-cut suit. And pow! That’s a chic, fearless look that cannot be denied.

Rayner Wide-Leg Jean, J Crew, $138

The vintage appeal of this wide-leg jean is right on trend. The cropped length shows off sandals while the weather is still warm — and works with all kinds of closed-toed styles when the air turns crisp, too.

Ursula Skirt, Rachel Pally, $189

This mid-length skirt is equally right for a walk on the beach as it is paired with long sleeves when weather turns cooler. The modal jersey piece, mixed with a hint of spandex, makes it feel as effortless as it looks.

Miu Miu Metallic Cap-Toe Skate Sneaker, Neiman Marcus, $550

Here’s a shoe that nods back to the designer’s ‘90s origins: Miu Miu’s leather skate sneaker has a platform sole and metallic cap-toe detailing. Major conversation starter, and comfy too.
