Padma Lakshmi Calls Herself “the Susan Lucci of Reality TV Hosting” After 2020 Emmy Awards
The Bravo's Top Chef host shared a sassy and sweet "Emmy's retrospective."
When Bravo's Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi posted "an Emmy's retrospective" over the weekend featuring some of her most memorable looks from over the years, she also made sure to include a caption that was equal parts heartwarming and tongue-in-cheek.
"Congrats to my dear friend [RuPaul], on your 5th(!!!) consecutive win [for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program], while I remain the Susan Lucci of reality TV hosting. *So* incredibly proud of the entire [Top Chef] cast [and] crew!!!" she wrote on Sunday before the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted main event aired that night. RuPaul's Drag Race also won during the Emmys on September 20 for Outstanding Competition Program.
At the 2020 Emmy Awards, Top Chef was up for four nominations, including Outstanding Competition Program and Outstanding Host for a Reality or Competition Program for Padma along with Tom Colicchio.
Shortly after being nominated, The Daily Dish spoke to Padma about all the Emmy love for Top Chef, including being nominated with Tom. "Well we’ve been nominated various times," Padma said in a phone interview. "I think that it was a really good season, you know. I’m not sure what was different about this season as far as that goes, to be honest."
Tom also spoke to The Daily Dish, adding, "I think this season just seemed like a special season. I think that’s it. It’s hard to say. It’s not like we’re doing anything differently. Listen, it’s good to be recognized. And obviously, you know, Padma does all the heavy lifting there. She works a lot more than I do and she does all the quick fires and all the eliminations. So, she’s doing the heavy lifting there. But it just goes to show the show is working."
