In the last two weeks a lot of ink has been spilled about Michael Strahan's imminent departure from LIVE. He's officially out on May 13, leaving the chair next to longtime host Kelly Ripa soon-to-be empty. There's been plenty of speculation about who just might be Kelly's next co-host, with Anderson Cooper's name being towards the top of the contenders list. Anderson appeared on Watch What Happens Live Thursday, alongside his mother Gloria Vanderbilt, and addressed all the gossip.
"Listen, I love Kelly and I think that show is, Kelly is the heart and soul of that show and it’s going to go on and continue to be great and I wish Michael the best in his new endeavor," he said, without actually saying if he'd take the job if it was ever offered to him. "Look, I’m very happy at CNN. Um, you know, it would be a dream to work with Kelly but nobody’s offering anything." It's to be noted that Andy has stumped hard for his pal to get the gig.
Michael has two weeks left before he officially leaves the show to take on a full-time role at Good Morning America this fall. There has been no word on when ABC might name his successor. Earlier this week, the network said they plan to "immediately begin the on-air search for a new co-host." In an interesting twist, Kelly's contract is slated to expire in 2017 — and she joked about just that during Thursday's show when an armadillo appeared as one of the guests. "I want to take him into contract negotiations with me," Kelly quipped about the screaming creature.
