Andy Cohen Wasn't Originally Supposed to Host the Friends Reunion

The #WWHL emcee dished on what it was like to be a part of the major TV event.

When Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc took the stage during the Must See TV: An All-Star Tribute to James Burrows special on NBC Sunday night, Andy Cohen had the best seat in the house. The Watch What Happens Live host moderated the highly anticipated reunion of the cast of Friends during the special, but that almost didn't happen.

Andy was originally only supposed to only sit down with the casts of Will & Grace, Frasier, and Taxi, but then he suddenly got pulled in to host the most buzzed-about reunion of the night. "No one knows this, but the night of show, I'm there in the audience and they came to me during the show and said, 'We've had a change of plans. Will you do the Friends reunion?' The night the show was going on. I said, 'Oh my God. Put me in the game!" Andy said during a recent interview with St. Louis' NBC affiliate KSDK. "So everything you saw was very off the cuff and it was just kind of my excitement that was powering me through that reunion. I know a thing or two about reunions, right?"

Yeah, we'd definitely have to agree with that statement. However, the years of expertise Andy has built up hosting Bravo's reunions may have been more of a hindrance than an advantage. "Hilariously they said to me before the show, 'Listen, this is a positive thing. You don't need to ask who slept with who,'" Andy explained. "I said, 'Yeah, I know. I understand. I'm a fan of all of these shows. I got it.'"

But if you saw one of the promos for the TV special, you know that Andy ultimately bent that rule, asking if the all of the cast members had to sign contracts agreeing not to sleep with one another. "I did, I did, that was the one I kind of went with, and of course, NBC is using it in the promo so I'm glad I did it," Andy said.

Andy was also happy to see that the stars of Friends weren't just acting like pals on screen. "It didn't surprise me, but what I think was so great was we all want the friends to actually be friends and the good news is they are friends," he said.

Speaking of friendship, watch NeNe Leakes talk about the essentials of a successful friendship on Sunday night's episode of WWHL, below.
