As many The Real Housewives of Orange County fans know, Terry Dubrow loves a good leather jacket. He rocks them as often as he can — that is, you know, when he's not in the operating room. But the good doctor is rethinking his look following the passing of Anthony Bourdain earlier this year.
"So Terry is, like, leather jacket man and he became obsessed with Anthony Bourdain when he passed away," Heather Dubrow recently revealed to The Daily Dish. "Terry's very intense and he likes to study people. And he became obsessed with his life. So he's listening to him. He's giving me life lessons from Anthony Bourdain and telling me all this stuff. And then he walks into the bathroom and he goes: 'Ugh, do I need to get a new jacket?' Just out of the blue."
It may have felt like a random query for Heather, but Terry, in his research on the beloved chef and TV personality, was feeling like he needed a change because of Bourdain. Terry says he came across an interview with Bourdain in which he claimed that men over the age of 50 "probably should rethink the leather jacket." (Terry turned 60 this year). "And I went ... right, bummer."
Regardless of that advice reeling in his head, Heather noted: "I'm like, so Anthony Bourdain posthumously has changed your look, really? He's still wearing it, though."
That wasn't the only Terry-in-a-leather-jacket related knowledge Heather dropped on The Daily Dish. "And the funny thing is he can never zip it. I swear to God, there is something with Terry and zippers that is weird," she said. "He can't zip his jacket. So we will be sitting at a restaurant [and] he literally can't zip it. I have to get up, walk around the table, and, like he's my child, put the little zipper together and zip it up."
Despite his fashion crisis on if he should stay true to his signature look, Terry, who confirmed he owns a collection of leather jackets to have at his disposal, did offer up a good explanation of why he loves leather jackets as much as he does.
"The thing about leather jackets and me is that, for me, for most of my life I didn't think I was cool enough to wear a leather jacket," he explained. "And then I became cool enough. And then so I felt, 'OK, I'm cool enough to wear a leather jacket, maybe, to wear a leather jacket, now it's all I wear.' And they're so comfortable and I'm a uniform guy. I wear scrubs every single day. And when I go out, I basically wear my outfit, which is [this]. If it was good for Steve Jobs to wear the same thing every day, [then I can] I wear it every day and it takes it off the table."
