8 Reasons Why You Should Eat Ice Cream All Winter

Tis the season for the wackiest, most unbelievably delicious ice cream flavors, shipped right to your door.

Just because it's winter doesn't mean you suddenly stop craving ice cream. Actually, this season might be the best time of year ever to grab a pint, thanks to these super-inventive, irresistible flavors from some of the nation's greatest ice cream makers, like Oregon’s Salt and Straw and Ohio’s Jeni’s Splendid ice cream. You won't even need to brave the cold to go after these; just get the flavors shipped right to your doorstep.

1. Fried Chicken and Waffles

Los Angeles based-Coolhaus transforms the popular combo of fried chicken and waffles (and maple syrup) into a wacky dessert we can't stop thinking about. Actual fried chicken skin and chicken stock get transformed into a sauce and folded into a brown butter and maple ice cream base, for a flavor you have to try to believe.

2. Pear and Blue Cheese

Famed Portland-based ice creamery Salt and Straw is known for its unexpected ice cream flavors and locally sourced products. This genius pint combines sweet chunks of Bartlett pears with crumbles of funky and salty blue cheese from Rogue Creamery, both Oregon ingredients.

3. Churros Con Leche

Churros are messy —that cinnamon-sugar coating gets everywhere—but eating them in scoop form totally eliminates the problem. Thanks to Santa Barbara’s McConnell’s Fine Ice Creams, the classic deep-fried dessert is now available as an incredible ice cream that actually tastes like churros, and packs in quality ingredients like grass-fed milk and Sri Lankan cinnamon.

4. Snap, Mallow, Pop

What Ample Hills has going on here is essentially a deconstructed Rice Krispies treat. The Brooklyn ice cream masters fold crunchy and buttery Rice Krispies clusters into a marshmallow ice cream base, to create a scoop with the sweet, unmistakable chewiness of a marshmallow.

5. Maple Bacon Bourbon

Tipsy Scoop specializes in combining two major vices — alcohol and ice cream — into one boozy frozen treat. One of the company’s more unique flavors? An ice cream starring a sweet maple base, salty bacon pieces, and an infusion of bourbon for good measure. Sandwich a scoop between waffles for the ultimate brunch dessert.

6. Lime Cilantro Sorbet

The ingredients in this refreshing sorbet from Capogiro would be equally at home in salsa, guacamole or even a margarita. Instead, lime and cilantro are transformed into a tangy, zingy, icy dessert guaranteed to make you forget it's winter outside.

7. Sweet Corn Spoon Bread

Ohio's cult-favorite ice cream maker Jeni’s Splendid transforms spoonable, crumbly cornbread — made in-house from sweet corn and honey-butter—into an insane ice cream that deliciously blurs the line between side dish and dessert.

8. Thai Peanut Butter Pretzel

Pretty much everything is Sriracha-flavored these days, and why should ice cream be any exception? Steve’s Ice Cream mixes the hot sauce with peanut butter, pretzels, and whole peanuts to create a flavor that's salty, sweet and spicy all at the same time.
