In recognition of Black History Month, Married to Medicine’s Dr. Heavenly KimesSummer House’s Mya Allen, and Southern Charm’s Venita Aspen gathered to discuss the importance of Black history and the significance of being a Black woman during a recent Instagram Live video on Bravo’s Instagram account.

How to Watch

Watch Married to Medicine Sundays at 9/8c on Bravo and streaming on Peacock and the Bravo App.

The empowering conversation was moderated by E! News correspondent Francesca Amiker and is the latest installment in the Amplify Our Voices series.

Heavenly led the insightful conversation by sharing what Black History Month means to her. “Black history means… looking back on all the achievements of our ancestors and knowing what they went through for us,” Heavenly said in the Instagram Live video. “It’s a lot of history that we were never taught. So now it’s the time to go back with myself and my children to just look back at the great creations that our ancestors have done for this country and so many other places.”

Mya mentioned that Black History Month is about “remember[ing] who we are, where we came from, [and] why we are here.”

Venita mirrored the sentiments of both Bravolebs, saying, “It’s a reminder that I belong in the spaces that I’m in.” The Southern Charm-er went on to explain how she keeps that message in mind “during February, obviously, but also throughout the rest of the year.”

The three Bravolebs also reflected on what it means to be a Black woman. “There’s a magic. Black girl magic is real,” Mya expressed during the Instagram Live chat.

Venita agreed with Mya’s positive words, saying, “Black women are just so unique.” Heavenly immediately concurred, adding, “I think we’re one of the most creative people on the planet… and I’m just so proud to be a Black woman.”
