Don't Hit Snooze! 7 Mind-Blowing Breakfast Sandwiches

Don't sleep on these luscious versions of an egg-and-cheese sandwich, served bubbling-hot at a grill near you.

Sure, you can grab a basic egg-and-cheese sandwich for $2 at the deli or lunch counter. Or you can splurge a little and dive into one of these unbeliveably rich, melty, gooey little pieces of heaven, guaranteed to make your morning—or set you up for a deliciously loungey weekend.

1. Croque-Madame, benjy’s, Houston

Houston brunch favorite benjy’s upgrades the breakfast sandwich with country ham, raclette (French cow's milk) cheese, béchamel (white sauce made with roux and milk) and onion-bacon jam, then tops everything with a fried farm egg. Sleeping in? You have until 3 pm on Sundays to get your order in.

2. Breakfast Sandwich, Blue Collar, Miami

The knockout diner food at the low-key Blue Collar in Miami is the stuff dreams are made of. Start your day with the can’t-miss breakfast sandwich, featuring two eggs over easy, a potato latke, white cheddar, bacon and garlic aioli on a slightly sweet Portuguese muffin.

3. Cinnamon Roll Sandwich, Sea & Smoke, Del Mar

Plan your weekend around brunch at Sea & Smoke in Del Mar, California, where you’re likely to spot familiar faces like Barry Bonds and Burt Bacharach. The kitchen at the spacious restaurant, in the Flower Hill Promenade shopping center, is helmed by chef Matt Gordon, revered for his American comfort-food dishes and focus on sustainable ingredients. Start your day off right with the crazy-good ham, cheese, bacon and fried egg sandwich, served with maple syrup on a freshly baked cinnamon roll.

4. Jersey Mac, G by Mike Isabella, Washington D.C.

The former Top Chef contestant opened his eponymous G by Mike Isabella next door to his northern Greek restaurant, Kapnos, in Washington D.C (attracting regulars like Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor). You can order classic Italian dishes by night and standout sandwich shop eats by day. But in the morning, it's all about the Jersey Mac, made with Taylor ham and Muenster cheese on a duck-fat English muffin topped with a duck egg over-easy.

5. The Fancy, Mike & Patty’s, Boston

At tiny sandwich shop Mike & Patty’s in Boston, the thing to get is The Fancy, made with organic multigrain toast layered with two fried eggs, cheddar, bacon, avocado, red onions and housemade mayo. Celebs like Parks and Recreation’s Anzi Ansari, Lewis Black and Rebel Wilson are fans of this place too; they've all stopped in for a Mike & Patty's fix.

6. French Toast Breakfast Sandwich, Eagle Rock Brewery Public House, Los Angeles

At the family-owned Eagle Rock Public House, fill up on the French toast breakfast sandwich, and round out your brunch with one of the craft beers. The sandwich comes with two thick-cut pieces of sourdough French toast wrapped around a fried California free range egg, a Nueske's bacon patty, two slices of extra sharp yellow cheddar and a side of Grade A Maple Syrup. Are we forgetting something? Oh right, there's powdered sugar on top too, of course.

7. Jimmy’s Burger, deca Restaurant + Bar, Chicago

In the lobby of the luxe Streeterville Ritz-Carlton, the art Deco-inspired deca offers a sumptuous burger on its midday menu of modern French cuisine. Topped with red wine-braised mushrooms, Gruyere cheese, a fried egg and foie gras and served on an English muffin, it's only available Sundays—so plan your weekend around it.
