Southern Charm viewers already know just how special a town Charleston is — and it turns out they're far from alone.
Readers of Travel + Leisure have just ranked the South Carolina city as their favorite urban center in North America. The data comes as part of the magazine's annual World's Best survey, in which readers pick their favorite travel options by category. In addition to airports, cruise lines, islands, and hotels, readers weigh in on the best cities in the world when it comes to offerings like arts and culture, shopping and dining options, plus romantic vibe.
Obviously, Charleston has all of that sophistication and cosmopolitan variety in spades — but it still maintains to ooze that friendly, small-town atmosphere that residents and visitors alike adore.
By the way? The South Carolina city also houses four of the top five small-city hotels in the U.S. in the survey, mainly revamped residences like the Wentworth Mansion, and the 1844 Planter's Inn, which dates back to 1844 — and is home to the superb Peninsula Grill restaurant.
In short, Charleston exudes endless southern charm, as that old saying goes, and is a perfect destination for a domestic escape. But if it was once an under-the-radar travel destination, it's now officially been discovered... big time!
