Did Erika Jayne Help Inspire Janet Jackson's Latest Music Video?
The legend's new visual reminds us of a certain #RHOBH singer's signature move.
Amidst reports that she's pregnant, Janet Jackson has just dropped a sultry new video for her single "Dammn Baby" — and one of the dance moves might look awfully familiar to fans of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Check it out around the 2:22 mark:
Doesn't that look a lot like "pat the puss," the infamous kitty-grazing choreography popularized by Erika Girardi aka Erika Jayne?
Before you suspect foul play, it's important to note that Erika hasn't ever tried to claim credit for creating the move herself.
"It is a dancehall move, it comes from Caribbean/Jamaican dance," she said on the RHOBH reunion, recognizing that she's actually far from the first to do it.
Jamaican dancehall singers like Patra have been using the V-forward motion in videos for decades. More recently, it's been a go-to move for another Caribbean star: Rihanna, who hails from Barbados.
But if you want to get reeeeallly technical, longtime fans of Janet might remember that she's also used the move before — way back in her 1993 video for "You Want This!" Feast your eyes on the 4:10 minute mark.
So while Janet may simply be resurfacing an old favorite step, Beyoncé's recent Real Housewife references in "Formation" lead us to believe that another pop music icon could have just revealed one of her favorite television shows.
