According to Vogue, Elaine and Jonathan originally chose the wedding date, May 10, 2020, because it held special significance to them. “There was so much symbolism in this sequence of numbers [5-10-20] that only come together once in a lifetime,” Elaine told the publication. “Also, it fell on a Sunday—the day we met as kids and saw each other every week growing up.”

Once it became clear that their original plans for a big wedding wouldn’t be possible amid the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, the couple decided to keep the meaningful date and get married at their home, with the ceremony broadcast virtually for friends and family to watch.

The duo got married on the stoop of their brownstone, with their pastor, Dr. Stanley Long, officiating the ceremony via Zoom. Neighbors were invited to join in the celebration from their own stoops, while 200 family and friends partook in the all-white dress code virtually.

A small group of Elaine and Jonathan’s loved ones also attended the ceremony in person while still observing New York’s social distancing guidelines. “I even created a social distancing standing chart and wrote guests’ names on the sidewalk in chalk to ensure everyone kept their distance,” Elaine said.

Brooklyn-based singer and musician Adeline Bolden DJ’ed the wedding as in-person guests danced in the street while also maintaining their distance. The couple provided gloves and masks on-site, as well as white parasols, flower seeds, bubbles and homemade brownies from a family recipe in a gift bag.

"Thank you to our BELOVED community for helping us transform an otherwise disappointing reality into the virtual stoop wedding of our dreams," Elaine captioned a photo of the wedding.

Congrats to the happy couple!
