Emily Simpson Says It Was "Difficult" Filming with Shane in the Beginning

Communication, honesty, trust, and respect — these are just some of the many factors that contribute to a strong and healthy relationship. But if you ask Emily Simpson, the most important element of a long-lasting romance is (cue the drumroll)… a shared sense of humor.

How to Watch

The Real Housewives of Orange County mom declared this on Instagram last week when she posted another amusing look at her marriage with Shane Simpson. Emily posted a video that showed her attorney husband standing behind a couch before holding up a power tool in each hand.

“When you’re husband fixes anything around the house …,” she wrote in the August 9 Reel. “You know you’re getting the ‘want to see my Big Drill’ comments.”

Emily Simpson sheds more light on her 15-year marriage

Emily used the funny moment to reflect on her and Shane’s relationship, and how they’ve managed to stay together for more than a decade.

“Shane just clarified that it’s actually a ‘screw gun’!” she wrote in the caption. “15 years of marriage and he still cracks me up daily. What do you think is the most important thing in a healthy marriage? I’d say laughter, fun, silly conversations and actually just enjoying each others company.”

Since tying the knot in 2009, Emily and Shane have welcomed three children together: a daughter named Annabelle, 11, as well as their twin sons, Luke and Keller, 9.

Although the OC couple is clearly going strong, they’ve had their fair share of issues over the past years. Emily opened up about her marital struggles during an April appearance on Bravo’s Hot Mic podcast, saying they hit their lowest point when Shane was struggling to pass the bar exam.

“I think you taking the bar exam was probably the most… difficult on our relationship,” she to her husband.

“That was a lot with filming, with young children, you know finances, [and] not working,” Shane added. “It was just a lot to deal with at the same time.”

Emily Simpson shuts down divorce rumors

Emily Simpson dispels rumors that her and Shane Simpson are divorcing.

Fans got a closer look at the couple’s dynamic in RHOC Season 18, Episode 3, when Shane expressed his concerns over Emily’s new health kick. Shortly after the episode aired, Emily caught wind of an Instagram post claiming she and her husband were “officially divorcing.” The OC ’Wife was quick to quash the rumors — and did so in the most Emily way.

“We’re not getting divorced!” she wrote. “Shane is never getting rid of me!”
