Is Trai Byers Leaving Empire?

The actor's onscreen wife Kaitlin Doubleday addresses the rumors on #WWHL.

Say it isn't so! Rumors began circulating earlier this month that Trai Byers, the actor behind Lucious Lyon's eldest son Andre on Empire, wants to leave the show. “Trai wants out,” an insider told Page Six in a report published on March 2. “He feels that he studied at Yale and he’s a ‘true thespian’ . . . The character is beneath him. He has an idea of himself as being this big Shakespearean actor.”

But we can all breathe a sigh of relief, because according to Trai's co-star Kaitlin Doubleday, who plays his onscreen wife Rhonda Lyon on Empire, he's not going anywhere. “No. I think, well, he is a trained actor and he does work really hard and he did got to Yale and he does compare the show to Shakespeare in a lot of ways, but I don’t think that that means that he wants to get killed off and if you do, you better not say that because that means I’m leaving, too," Kaitlin said of the rumors on Thursday's Watch What Happens Live. "He’s going to stay and he doesn’t say that [he wants to leave] at all."

This backs up what Trai said in a lengthy post on Instagram following the report earlier this month. "I have nothing but love and respect for 'Empire' and all who are involved on the show. I have a fabulous relationship with FOX, and hold myself to the highest standards professionally. How could I think of demanding something larger than Andre, where I get to express a man with Bipolar disorder, who is on a spiritual journey to find his identity?" he wrote. "I'm so proud, so happy, and so lucky to be a part of this cast. This show has started my career. See you in Season Three!"

Well, we're definitely glad to hear that, especially after learning so much Empire tea from Kaitlin during her WWHL appearance. Find out who she thinks deserves the Empire, which star is the biggest flirt, and who has the worst storyline, below.
