What’s dreamier than a world-class department store in a top vacation destination? One you visit around the holidays, of course! Those twinkling lights and cinematic window displays inspire us to pull out the credit card for some serious souvenir shopping. Check out these signature finds from the world’s stateliest stores — and prepare for your wish list to grow.
The grand dame of Paris department stores celebrates its 150th anniversary this year, and it has a very special party guest. The store’s signature Fairy — why doesn’t every shop have one of these? — is inspired by a 1911 tale written about Printemps. This season, the magical creature appears in window displays and in some 250 exclusive anniversary products dusted with gold.
2. Bergdorf Goodman
During the holidays, the Big Apple store’s windows come alive with breathtaking displays. Take a piece of the panache to your living room by trimming your tree with a custom ornament from De Carlini. This year’s collector’s piece features a miniature Bergdorf shopper swathed in feathers and sparkles. No tree? No problem. The cute accessory would be fabulous for trimming other gifts, too.
London’s legendary store slings some jolly good holiday decor — who wouldn’t want a “Peter & Poppy Snow Globe?” But since this is London, we insist on a trinket that celebrates teatime. (Lisa Vanderpump would be proud.) The Mackenzie Childs teakettle, decked in sparkling holly, would look brilliant on our mantel.
4. Neiman Marcus
Between Valentino totes and Chantecaille’s gold eye cream (obviously need), our lust list grows a foot every time we set foot in the Dallas-based retailer. (Everything’s bigger in Texas.) Take home a seasonal token of the grandeur with the Christian Lacroix Shaman Night Advent Calendar. You heard that right: a couture designer made an advent calendar. And it’s even more gorgeous than you’d imagine.
5. Harvey Nichols
The other perfectly posh store in London knows how to rock around a Christmas tree, too. Along with drool-inducing designer goods (think dresses from Mary Katrantzou and trousers by Alexander Wang), the store has a great array of food and drink. For a hearty souvenir, we’re coveting the Great Brit Box. It’s filled with fete-ready goods like chocolate-covered toffee, Christmas pudding, and (of course) champagne.
6. Brown Thomas
Ireland’s fanciest department store has over-the-top whimsical holiday windows this year. Inspired by a fairytale from an Irish children’s author, the display features frosted trees and adorable woodland creatures. Shoppers can pick up a piece of the magic (and make a kiddo’s holiday season) with a cuddly white reindeer toy.
