Fredrik Eklund: Appearance Is Key to Success
The 'MDLNY' star reveals how much he pays for a haircut—and how much you should be spending on your wardrobe.
As New York City's top agent for the second year in a row, Fredrik Eklund knows a thing or two about selling houses—and himself.
The Million Dollar Listing New York star knows that just as with real estate, people get judged by their appearance. Which is why he insists on investing in serious maintenance on his own exterior.
His haircuts, for instance? They run him a cool $275, every three weeks. "The haircuts are expensive, but it's a piece that you wear every day of your life, and everyone is going to see it," he explains to Nightline.
And when it comes to your wardrobe, you really can't afford to be stingy, either. "I think 10 percent of your income should go to clothing," he says. "This coat was $3,000."
If you're thinking all these extravagances are unnecessary because you're not in sales, Fredrik cautions you to think again. "Selling is universal," he says. "We are all selling. When you go on a date, you are selling. When you go on a job interview, you are selling."
Aside from a high-kicking closet and haircut, Fredrik has something even more special to celebrate: the arrival of his daughter via surrogate. "I think the biggest goal of my entire life has been to have a family, and that's something that's happening now," he reveals. Along with husband Derek, Fredrik is looking forward to welcoming baby Milla into their lives. "That's going to change everything."
