Gail Simmons Rocks Eric Ripert's World
The Top Chef judge stuns the legendary chef with some good old hangover food.
It takes a very special person to baffle Eric Ripert when it comes to food, yet our very own Top Chef judge Gail Simmons did just that when she showed up to cook with the French legend for his Reserve Channel show On The Table.
How, you ask? Gail busted out a serious hangover food recipe straight from the United Kingdom: Welsh Rarebit. To the uninitiated, no it's not rabbit -- it's basically a ridiculously rich open-faced grilled cheese, only way better. "I decided I need to create something that you would never necessarily make yourself," Gail says to Eric when discussing what she'd be whipping up. "No fish, I'm definitely shying away from fish. I decided I wanted to cook eggs ... I wanted to do something completely out of your comfort zone." Hence, the rarebit. Dive into the video below to watch Gail work her kitchen magic:
After learning simply to pronounce the dish, Ripert is game when Gail tells him it's great after a long night, and the two are off not just in terms of cooking, but discussing Gail's career in kitchens and magazines, her cooking preferences, their time on Top Chef together and more. The two get along swimmingly, and Gail was thrilled that she got to teach someone as accomplished as Eric a new dish. Oh, and she also really dug bossing him around.
