George Clooney Gives Santa Claus a Run For His Money: He Once Gifted 14 Lucky Friends $1 Million Each
Cindy Crawford's husband Rande Gerber spills the tea on his generous pal George.
George Clooney may be the best gift giver of all time, if his friend Rande Gerber is to be believed. According to E! News, Gerber, who is married to Cindy Crawford, revealed on the MSNBC show Headliners that Clooney gave him and 13 other friends each the gift of a million dollars — tax-free — in 2013.
It was dramatic, too. Gerber recalled that Clooney invited the friends to his home for dinner, where they found black suitcases at each of their spots around a table.
"Every one of us—14 of us—got a million dollars. Every single one of us," he recalled. "We're in shock. Like, what is this? He goes, 'I know we've all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don't have to worry about your kids, you don't have to worry about, you know, school, you don't have to worry about paying your mortgage.' One was working at a bar in Texas at the airport, trying just to support his family. Rides a bicycle to work every day. I mean these are guys that took care of George and now he's giving it all back. And George said, ‘Not only that, I have paid everyone's taxes so this million dollars is yours.'"
Gerber notes that this magical evening took place about a year before he married Amal Clooney. "Now that's good karma right there," he said.
Clooney has a track record of being generous with his friends. Check out Viola Davis' story of how he invited her and her husband to stay in his Italian villa for her honeymoon, in the video above.
Clooney is still out there being thoughtful, even to people he doesn't know. He and his wife reportedly recently gave out noise-canceling headphones to fellow passengers on a flight, just in case twins Alexander and Ella made too much of a fuss.
