Gizelle Bryant Explains Why She Gave Sherman Douglas a Second Chance — and Why It Didn't Work out Again

Gizelle Bryant said she "was just really wrong" about her ex-boyfriend Sherman Douglas.

Season 4 of The Real Housewives of Potomac is like déjà vu for Gizelle Bryant — more than she probably hoped.

It began in much the same way as Season 3 did, with Gizelle in a happy relationship with Sherman Douglas. Unfortunately, that relationship also ended the same way it did last season, with Sherman standing Gizelle up right before a big date (dinner at Robyn and Juan Dixon's house in Season 3, Candiace Dillard Bassett's wedding in Season 4).

Gizelle has said in the past that she almost never gives second chances to guys once they call it quits. So, what was it about Sherman that made her give their relationship another try? "Sherman was very much calling me and trying to see me and spend time with me, which we did. And at that point, I decided to really take it seriously. We had broken up several times, so I'm like, 'If we're gonna do this, let's do this right,'" she explained during an interview with The Daily Dish prior to the start of this season of RHOP, which you can view, above. "So we started some counseling, and then it didn't work out."

She added, "And I really felt like he wanted us to be back together and wanted us to work hard to get there and I was wrong. I was just really wrong. So you live and you learn. You can't beat yourself up over it."

Gizelle confirmed she and Sherman are not together today. "And I think that's the best thing because I really need somebody who's gonna be there for me and be strong for me and handle all that I do," she shared. "I have a big life and a big world, and if you can't handle it, then I need to move on."

Gizelle isn't the only one who's been affected by this emotional roller coaster; it also hasn't been easy for her daughters, 14-year-old Grace and 13-year-old twins Angel and Adore, who really took a liking to Sherman. "Yes, they like Sherman, but they like their mommy more, so they really just want me to be happy," Gizelle said. "And they realize if I'm not happy with Sherman, it's fine. You know, the right person will come along."

Perhaps that "right person will come along" sooner rather than later. Gizelle said that she has been dating and is involved in "a little something something." "But we'll see," she noted. "I'm taking things very slowly. This is all baby steps for Gizelle."

Since there has been some drama surrounding her relationship with Sherman, Gizelle admitted she's planning on taking a different approach to dating and introducing any future special someones to the Potomac squad. "They're gonna meet him when I get married, on that day, on the wedding day, yes," Gizelle joked. "No, it's gonna be somebody that is obviously very serious. You know what, I think I don't want any more breakups, so I think I'm just gonna date whoever it is lightly, like light dating until I really know that it's real."

Gizelle opened up to The Daily Dish more about what it's like dating as a Real Housewife, including which member of the RHOP family "especially had plenty of opinions on the Sherman-Gizelle fiasco" and why her "relationships have gone into the tube" since she joined the show. Check it all out, above.
