The Surprising Way Brynn Whitfield and Ubah Hassan Ended the RHONY Reunion
Even Ubah Hassan herself didn't see this moment coming.
Just when it looked like Brynn Whitfield and Ubah Hassan’s friendship was permanently severed, they gave us a heartwarming moment of hope in the final moments of The Real Housewives of New York City’s Season 15 reunion.
The two Housewives stunned host Andy Cohen and the other cast members when they shared a long embrace on the reunion couch as they seemingly put any bad blood behind them from the season’s dramatic finale, opting instead to choose forgiveness.
“I’m really sorry,” Ubah told Brynn as she stood up from her seat across the room and moved next to an emotional Brynn.
“I would never blame you for something,” Brynn told her as the pair hugged it out.
“I know, Brynn, I’m sorry,” Ubah told her, before adding “You smell really good.”
What happened between Brynn Whitfield and Ubah Hassan during the reunion?
The ending hug was a dramatic shift from the mood when the reunion began. The Housewives were coming off a volatile finale that put an abrupt end to the cast’s trip to Puerto Rico. The feud — which centered on what Ubah did or didn’t know about Brynn’s past trauma — managed to pull in the entire cast and left everyone feeling on edge.
The dispute sparked accusations during the reunion about what many in the cast saw as Brynn’s habit of twisting the truth, leading some of the Housewives to be seen in an unfavorable light.
In Part 2 of the emotion-fueled reunion, Ubah told Brynn that she did “forgive” her, but made it clear that the feud may have caused irreparable damage to their relationship.
“I’m not mad at you, but we will never go back to what we were. Ever,” Ubah told her. “I want nothing to do with you and I’m so hurt because my relationship with you was not over. I loved you and I wanted your friendship, but we’re done. I want to go back to when I didn’t know who the f--- you were, that’s where we’re going back.”
Andy acknowledged the two appeared to be at a stalemate, telling the two women “I feel like you’re not going to get anywhere” before asking Brynn whether she had anything she wanted to say to the other women in the cast.
Brynn tearfully told the group she was hurt that “no one really comforted me” in the aftermath of the explosive finale — although Jenna Lyons and Erin Lichy both insisted they had.
She added that she believed she was unfairly being labeled as someone who had a “master plan to ruin people’s lives.”
While Brynn continued to insist that she did make a comment about the painful moment in her past during a chaotic and emotional conversation with Ubah, she now said that she believed that Ubah never clocked it and “of course” didn’t know when she made other comments on the trip that sparked the feud.
“I love Ubah more than probably anyone here, so I think that’s why it hurts the most and it just f---ing hurt to hear it when she got mad, but I know she only says those things, I know she didn’t mean them, you know?” Brynn said.
“Ubah loves me,” Brynn continued as the camera panned to Ubah’s tear-streaked face.
Brynn’s vulnerable display prompted Ubah to have a change of heart and she got up to give Brynn a hug in the touching moment.
How did the RHONY cast react to Ubah and Brynn’s hug?
“That was very nice of Ubah,” a stunned Sai DeSilva commented.
“Yeah, I’m shocked,” Erin replied.
Before the reunion wrapped, Jenna also told Brynn that although some of the cast were still upset by her actions throughout the season, it didn’t mean they didn’t care for her.
“Brynn, I know this was incredibly hard for you and I just don’t want you to think that we don’t love you,” she said. “All we talk about is that we’re worried about you because we know what you’re going through, it doesn’t mean that we’re not mad or frustrated by some of the things that you’ve done, but the two things can exist at the same time.”
The cast then settled in to enjoy one of “Naomi Watts’ infamous pavlovas” courtesy of Andy before one final sweet moment as Sai walked over to give Brynn a hug.
“I’m sorry that everything happened to you,” she told her, adding that they still “gotta work on some things” in their relationship.
