Unstoppable might be one way to describe Bethenny Frankel, who has reached the upper stratospheres of success as both the founder of the Skinnygirl empire and a reality TV star. But the always candid Real Housewives of New York City star has no qualms speaking out about the difficulties of being both a workaholic and a single mom.
"As far as balance, being a mom is a terrifying thing," she tells Elle.com. "Not being with your child all the time is a terrifying concept. But no one is with their child all the time. Your kid has to go to school, your kid has to be with their friends. Even when you're married, you're divided. Even when you go to the office all day, you're divided."
Bethenny says if she's figured out one thing, it's how to make time with her five-year-old daughter Bryn really count. "The time with my daughter is with my daughter. It's so quality. There's no work, no meetings, no Housewives, no show, no appearances, no product," she explains. "It's time with my daughter: mommy and me, play dates, snuggling, whatever. Then when I'm out and she's in school or I can't be with her, it's full-on lockdown work. What I finally figured out is, wow, I'm doing exactly what I'm supposed to be doing."
The devoted mom also expresses how glad she is to return to the show that helped make her a household name. "My life is kind of stressful, personally, and work can be stressful, too. Because of what I said to you about balance, you need to enjoy what you're doing," she stresses. "I'm not doing anything because I have to, I'm doing everything because I like it. And I'm happy."
