After Malia posted a photo of herself sitting by the sea in Croatia on Instagram on August 27, one fan posed a question to the bosun. "Did you lose the tip of your finger," the Instagram follower asked in the comments section, to which Malia replied, "Yes! I lost it in an axe-ident! Lol seriously."

Malia confirmed in another comment that the accident occurred when she was 4 years old. When another commenter suggested that Malia "could tattoo [a] nail" to her finger, she said, "I actually have a nail that is painted! It’s just hard to see. I do have a tattoo of an axe on it though! lol."

Earlier this summer, Malia opened up to fans on social media about a recent accident she experienced while out on her scooter during a day off from working on a boat in Palma de Mallorca, Spain. Malia shared how her recovery was going during an interview with The Daily Dish in early August. "I’m doing OK, actually. Luckily, I was wearing a helmet. It wasn’t as bad as it could have been," she said. "I had a fractured elbow and broken toe, so I’m just waiting for those to heal."

Malia added that she also came away from the accident with "some pretty gnarly" scars.

The Below Deck Med bosun has kept fans updated on her progress since the incident on Instagram as she recuperates in Florida. Not long after her interview with The Daily Dish in August, Malia started to intensify her workouts (which she had already been crushing while injured, by the way), getting "cleared for weight bearing exercises," like handstands, as she demonstrated in a video on Instagram on August 9. "It’s hard for me to stay put, I think [laughs]," Mallia said of getting back to exercising after her accident while speaking with The Daily Dish.

As you can see, Malia seems to be doing just fine these days, looking all smiles in one of the latest pics she posted to Instagram showing off her new brown hair color.
