How Should You Pop the Question? See the 'Wedding Party' Star's Tips!

Also, what's the one thing you should splurge on for a wedding?

Kristin Banta of 'The Wedding Party'

The summer months are just around the corner, and that means it'll soon officially be wedding (and proposal) season. C'mon, you know you're already loving-slash-dreading all of the big nuptials you're invited to this summer -- so we figured who better for advice than expert and The Wedding Party host Kristin Banta.

Banta, who is the brains behind Kristin Banta Events and will be showing off her skills on Party tonight at 11pm, says that despite most guys thinking proposals have to be a major production, oftentimes it's the sentimental simple kind that works out best.

"I think it’s risky proposing in the company of others and could rob a couple of having a shared moment that is just their own," Banta told us. "I don’t think that it’s necessary to have to go big and over the top to be significant and thoughtful. Reflecting on special moments shared between the two of you, and really getting to the heart of why you feel that this person is your life partner- is what makes the most impactful proposal. One of my favorite proposal stories came from a guy who, while at their favorite restaurant, presented his girlfriend with three different trays with cloche covers. Inside each was an object that represented a key moment in their relationship. The first was a succulent, which stood for a cactus garden where they spent time while falling in love; the second was a Sprinkles’ cupcake, which they ate on their first date; the third was an engagement ring! So simple yet so perfect."

And while a lot of brides and grooms (and their respective parents) obsess about wedding-ish things like bridesmaids dresses, the cocktail hour menu and other little things they think will make a huge difference, Banta says there's one thing most people overlook that can really differentiate your party from the rest.

"I suggest splurging on lighting because it affects the way people feel and behave more than any other element at a wedding," she told us. Good to know!

Her biggest chunk of advice? Go original and make it about you. "When thinking about your event, show your point of view by creating your day based on all the things that you are passionate about as a couple, the things that you love, your inside jokes, how you met, who you are and who you’ll become together. If your event has soul, in addition to being hospitable to those in attendance, it will be a success."
