You see, not only did Nema and Erica used to date (that was, until he told her he almost kissed Golnesa "GG" Gharachedaghi last season), but they've also been work colleagues throughout the whole time they've known each other. As Nema explained in the episode, he first met Erica in 2010 when she became his assistant. After he got divorced in 2015, he started dating again about a year later, asking Erica out to dinner.
The two dated for about two years and worked together before, during, and after their relationship. However, the time had come for Nema to say goodbye to Erica, at least professionally. She had accepted another job with a company in Barcelona, Spain and would no longer be working for Nema, who was not happy to be losing her as an employee.
Nema said during the episode that he still wanted Erica to be a part of his life. "She's so supportive and loving, and it's like, how do you let go of that when you've never had that before?" he said.
Even though Nema expressed during his conversation with Erica that he thought he was going to marry her one day, she made it clear that she didn't see any romance in their future. "I know Erica doesn't want a relationship with me, but I'm not ready to let her go," Nema said.
"You're like the best relationship in my life, and I think I'm the worst relationship in your life," Nema told Erica, to which she replied, "I definitely think I can do better than you."
Nema opened up more about the tense discussion on Instagram prior to the episode airing. "This was a tough moment for me to re-watch but one I need to own. [Erica] is an amazing person and I’m happy she doesn’t hold back," Nema wrote. "You can decide tonight if you think if I deserved it."
But it looks like there are no hard feelings between Nema and Erica these days, at least on his part. He shared a photo of the two looking all smiles together in his Instagram Stories. "Love. Family. Kindness. Best friend," Nema captioned the pic. "All the words I always associate with you."
As for Erica, she hasn't explicitly commented on the Shahs of Sunset moment with Nema just yet. However, she did share a photo with a friend on Instagram on the same day the episode aired, writing in the post, "Fries before guys."
We'd also like to point out that Nema liked the post on Instagram.
