“I called the police before she came home to keep from having an incident,” he told PEOPLE in a statement about calling the authorities to perform a welfare check on The Real Housewives of Orange County alum. “I was concerned. And there was no incident because of that.”

According to reports, Jim was watching the estranged couple's three kids, twins Hart and Hayes and daughter Aspen, when Meghan went out with some friends and had a few drinks. Their children were asleep when she got home and she was preparing for bed when the police arrived to question her.

After questioning her, the police determined she was fit to care for their children.

She has not commented on the report; Jim attempted to clarify the incident in a statement to Us Weekly: "I did not call the police on my wife. I called the police to protect the situation and make sure there were no further issues.”

The incident comes during a tumultuous period for the couple. Jim reportedly filed for divorce on October 25, and since then the couple has been publicly commenting on rumors and allegations, and battling it out via statements and interviews.
