On Monday, January 2, the retired tennis player’s representative shared a statement confirming that the 66-year-old has been diagnosed with Stage 1 throat and early stage breast cancers. Her rep, per ESPN, said that Martina’s “prognosis is good” and that Martina will start treatment later this month.

“This double whammy is serious but still fixable, and I’m hoping for a favorable outcome,” Martina herself said about the diagnosis. “It’s going to stink for a while, but I’ll fight with all I have got.”

According to ESPN, Martina discovered a swollen lymph node in her neck in November 2022, while she was in Texas for the WTA finals. While she was getting the lymph node biopsied, her breast cancer was discovered. She was previously diagnosed with a noninvasive form of breast cancer in 2010.

The 18-time Grand Slam singles champion has been married to The Real Housewives of Miami cast member Julia Lemigova since 2014. Following the news of Martina’s cancer diagnosis, Julia shared a photo of her and Martina, and she thanked her fans and loved ones for their “support.”

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out to share words of support,” Julia wrote in the caption of her January 2 post. “Together, we will fight this.”

Several of Julia’s RHOM castmates (and a few other Bravolebrities) offered their love and well wishes for the spouses in the comments section.

“Yes! Together we will win this battle,” Julia’s best pal, Adriana De Moura, wrote, along with two red heart emojis and several prayer hand emojis. Larsa Pippen and Lisa Hochstein also added red hearts, while Marysol Patton posted prayer hands, a heart, and a set of shooting star emojis.

“We love you both and positive thoughts only,” Guerdy Abraira added. Alexia Nepola wrote, “You are both strong and you will fight this and win,” and Dr. Nicole Martin posted, “Sending you guys lots of love and strength.”

Vanderpump Rules’ Ariana Madix posted heart emojis, and Real Girlfriends in Paris’ Adja Toure said, “Sending love and extra strength.”

“Sending you both so much love during this time,” The Real Housewives of Potomac’s Dr. Wendy Osefo added as well.

Julia later posted a video of her and Martina out in Miami with some friends.

“Even in the tough times, always find moments to relax [and] have fun,” Julia wrote in the caption of her post.
