Kate Chastain Says Keeping Her Pregnancy a Secret at BravoCon Was the “Hardest Thing”

When Kate Chastain appeared at BravoCon 2022, she was holding on to one mother of a secret.

The Below Deck alum was in the first trimester of her pregnancy when she appeared at the three-day event in October 2022 — and nobody knew. She told ET that it was tough to keep the news to herself.

“The hardest thing was, you’re really not supposed to share until you’re at week 12 and BravoCon was week 11 and a half,” Kate told the outlet. “So, here I am, the biggest weekend, partying, drinks — everybody in the Bravo universe, ‘Come out, have drinks with us!’”

(You can check out a highlight from Kate's time at BravoCon by checking out the video at the top of the post.)

Because Kate wanted to keep the news private for a bit longer, she kept telling people at the event that she “was on antibiotics” to explain why she wasn’t drinking alcohol. However, it wasn’t easy to keep the fib going.

“I’m such a bad liar that I just started locking myself in my hotel room, because everybody was there having a good time, and I was pretty sure people were on to me because, ‘Kate Chastain, you’re not having a drink with us? Are you [OK]?’” she continued.

While Kate told ET that she’s had the “easiest pregnancy ever” overall, she had one bout of morning sickness at BravoCon that made it even more difficult to keep the secret going.

“I was hosting on the BravoTV.com stage, and [it was] the only time I’ve got sick this whole pregnancy,” she explained. “I was talking to Luke [Gulbranson] from Summer House in a green room, and he’s being lovely. He’s telling me about his maple syrup. I’m like, ‘That’s so interesting…’ and I start feeling like, whoa! And I had to take off running down a back alley into a janitor’s closet.”

Though Kate had to keep her cards close to her chest during BravoCon, she did end up announcing the exciting news on Instagram in December 2022. Just a day later, she made a surprise appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen.

The Traitors cast member told host Andy Cohen that she was due in May 2023. It appears BravoCon prepared her well for keeping secrets, since she said she’s keeping the name and sex of her baby to herself for the time being.
