Everything We Know About Kate Chastain’s Pregnancy
The Below Deck alum is expecting her first child. Get all the details on the baby’s name, due date, and more.
Below Deck fans have surely heard the news a-boat Kate Chastain, but for those who haven’t: She’s pregnant!
The Below Deck Galley Talk cast member took to Instagram on December 13 to announce that she’s expecting her first child, and later that same day, she made a surprise appearance on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen to further dish on the exciting news.
The Announcement
Kate’s Instagram post was a baby bump selfie — featuring an adorable navy-and-white floral-printed dress — captioned, “I’m already planning so many birthday theme parties for you.”
The Due Date
As Kate revealed on WWHL, her little one is expected to arrive on May 8.
The Sex of the Baby
On the WWHL After Show, Kate revealed that she already knows if she’s having a boy or a girl, but she’s “saving that” information for now.
The Name
Similarly, Kate has already picked out her baby’s name! And as she told Andy, it has significance within her family.
The Parenting Plan
Kate hasn’t publicly discussed who her baby’s father is — and at BravoCon 2022, she stated that she was single — but she did provide some insight into her parenting plans on WWHL. “I’m doing it solo and perhaps with some help,” Kate said. “But I’m happy to do it alone.”
The Bravoverse’s Reaction
Congratulatory messages started pouring in almost immediately after Kate announced the news on Instagram, and many of them came from her Below Deck family, including Mediterranean’s Colin Macy-O’Toole and Kasey Cohen, and Sailing Yacht’s Captain Glenn Shephard and Alli Dore. The latter wrote, “Oh my god I’m so happy for you!!! You’ll be an amazing mum.”
Captain Lee Rosbach also made sure to praise his former chief stew. “I have no doubt she’s going to be a great mom,” he told People, adding that he “couldn’t be more elated” for Kate. “She’s taken on a big challenge, but she’s more than up to it,” Lee said. “And I don’t think I’ve ever seen her this happy.”
Several other Bravolebrities congratulated Kate, including The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills’ Dorit Kemsley and Sutton Stracke, The Real Housewives of Potomac’s Gizelle Bryant and Ashley Darby, Shahs of Sunset’s Mercedes “MJ” Javid and Reza Farahan, Southern Charm’s Madison LeCroy, and more.
More Details
On WWHL, Kate revealed that having a baby is something she’s always wanted — and thankfully, her role as a yachtie is sure to come in handy. “I think being a chief stew really trained me for it,” Kate said, prompting Andy to reply, ”I do too.”
That’s not to say she’s entirely prepared, though. “Honestly, I like sleeping in and I’m also kind of lazy and selfish, so I feel like that’s gonna be an adjustment,” Kate joked to E! News. “But I just figure if I love this child as much as I love my dog, everything will be fine, and people are assuring me that I will.”
Among those people? The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip Season 2 cast member Brandi Glanville, who Kate said she hopes will “co-parent the baby” with her.
She’s also heeding the advice of MJ, who is the mom of a 3-year-old son, Shams. As Kate told E! News of the Shahs cast member, “The first time I met her, she had just had her little baby and she came and picked me up at my hotel. We went out to dinner, she brought that baby with us, sat at the restaurant, had a margarita and some chips and salsa. I think, ‘Really? Are you nervous to be a mom? No, MJ made it look so cool and easy.’ So I’m excited.”
