If you’ve ever expressed admiration for Kathy Hilton, there’s a very small chance you may have offended her.

How to Watch

Watch The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills on Peacock and the Bravo App.

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills friend revealed this during a Mother’s Day (May 14) episode of I Am Paris — the podcast hosted her daughter Paris Hilton. At one point during the sit-down, Kathy spoke about the support she’s received over the last few years and how she mistook a term of endearment as an insult.

“I’ll never forget when I was first called a ‘GOAT,’” she said in the episode, which was previewed on Paris’ Instagram page. “I was like, ‘That’s really rude.’ A goat? And I’m like, ‘That’s really mixed up.’”

GOAT is an acronym for “greatest of all time,” and was initially used to praise athletes and hip-hop artists who’ve excelled in their respective fields. The slang has been used more broadly in recent years and has evolved into a catchall term for anyone and anything that’s considered great.

However, Kathy wasn’t the only Hilton who mistook GOAT as an insult. She went on to reveal that Paris had a similar experience on social media.

“Yeah, I was doing the same thing,” the host admitted. “I thought people were being mean and … calling me a goat, so I was erasing all of the comments that had goats and then blocking all the people.”

Paris said she didn’t realize GOAT was a compliment until she brought up the issue with her little sister, Nicky Hilton Rothschild.

“And Nicky’s like, ‘It means greatest of all time,’” she recalled with a laugh. “I’m like, ‘Oh, OK.’ Now I feel bad for all these people I blocked. They’re probably like, ‘Why did she block me?’”

The episode premiered as Paris celebrated Mother’s Day as a first-time mom. Back in January, she and her husband, Carter Reum, announced they had welcomed a baby boy via surrogate. The arrival was a surprise not only to fans, but also to Kathy.

“I was in shock, I was in complete shock,” Kathy told Extra about the family addition earlier this year. “We didn’t have our Christmas together because she was working out of the country. [Paris] said, ‘I have a surprise for you,’ and it was my Christmas present. Then she waited a few minutes and goes, ‘I have one more surprise for you.’”

It was at that time Paris introduced Kathy to her son, Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum.

“She walks in, blanket falls down, and I just go, ‘Who is this? What is this?’” the Hilton family matriarch continued. “He is such a little angel.”
