Vicki Gunvalson Gives Kelly Dodd Advice on How to Handle Divorce

As Kelly Dodd moves forward with her plans to divorce husband Michael Dodd, she can rest easy knowing that she can count on at least one friend to be by her side during this difficult time. Vicki Gunvalson recently told The Daily Dish that she is here to support Kelly as she figures out her next steps.

How to Watch

In fact, Vicki said that Kelly confided in her about her marital issues when the two went on a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in August. "She told me how unhappy she was, and I said, 'Well, maybe, it's just putting yourself on reality TV, it's tough. There's a lot of marriages that fail when you're on a reality TV show because it puts pressure on it,'" Vicki recalled to The Daily Dish (clip above). "And I think they're 15 or 16 years apart, and she just said, 'I think we're better apart.'"

Still, it's always heartbreaking to hear news like this, Vicki said. "It makes me sad because [my boyfriend] Steve [Lodge] and I adore Michael and Kelly. Steve's really good friends with Michael. They get together a lot, at least once a week, or talk a lot. And I don't like to see breakups. My breakup was public. It's hard. She's got [her daughter] little Jolie who's 11," Vicki shared. "Everybody gets to choose who they want to be with, and you either have to make it better or you have to part because you can't live in this place of sadness and disconnect. I don't know what their future is, but I just told her either way I support her and love her and that's what a friend does, right? I'm not gonna judge. I'm not gonna tell her what she should or shouldn't do. She has to walk in those shoes."

Even though Kelly and Michael seemed to be in a better place this season, Vicki advised fans to stay tuned. "I was really happy to see how she talked about Michael when she had her breast surgery and she was waiting in the waiting room and she said how she relies on him, he's her confidant, she always knew he's got her back. And even Steve and I watched it, we thought, 'God, that's really nice,'" Vicki said. "You're gonna see, as we get towards the end of the season, she's just not happy. That's sad because he's a good guy, she's a good girl. You know, they just may not be good together anymore."

Vicki, who has been divorced twice, also had some words of wisdom for Kelly on how to deal with the breakup in the public eye. "My advice to Kelly is to keep it as private as you can. Don't embarrass Michael, don't humiliate him, don't have him embarrass you, don't publicly bash him," she said. "That is the worst thing when you're going through a divorce to have your spouse hurt you publicly. But I think she gets it."
