Kyle Richards Shares Her Marriage to Mauricio Umansky Recently "Did Change a Lot" and Here's Why
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member dished all about her marriage to the real estate mogul.
It's not too surprising that everyone in Kyle Richards' family has star quality. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills cast member, of course, has been an actress and Hollywood A-lister for, well, basically her entire life. In fact, the same goes for sisters Kim Richards and Kathy Hilton.
And while Kyle's husband, Mauricio Umansky, doesn't work in show business (he, of course, a successful real estate mogul), he does have a certain it factor that RHOBH fans have certainly noticed over the years. "He always wins every poll of who’s the favorite husband. It’s so funny, like [when you were] asking me, 'Did I ever see my sisters as being, like, kooky?' and I really didn’t, and then when I see the show, I’m like, 'Oh, I guess they are' [laughs]. And they are funny, but, my husband, like, literally the thing that will drive me nuts, everyone’s like, 'It’s so amazing,' and I’m like, thanks for encouraging this behavior, really," she recently told Bravo Insider about her spouse's casual cool personality, which has earned him a spot as a fan favorite.
Kyle noted that when they are sharing home life moments with the world, she's usually "stressing" while prepping for a party when Mauricio just strolls in the room. "I’m so stressed because the cameras are there. My guests are arriving, and my lights aren’t on [in] my pool. And I’m like, 'Please, help, who do we call?' And I’m serious and I’m panicking. I just want to punch him, and everyone’s like, 'That was so funny [when he just shows up while finalizing plans],' and there’s like all these memes. And he’s like, 'See, I told you that was funny. I’m funny.' Like, no, you’re not; that’s annoying [laughs]," Kyle said. "But it’s like the things that drive me nuts, the audience loves."
Kyle noted that despite his ease in front of the cameras, Mauricio's not seeking out the spotlight. "He’s not at all. He barely shows up. But when he does, he’s like, 'OK, if I’m going to do this, I’m going to have fun.' And now people just think he’s like Mr. Partyer," she said. "Well, I’m like, he is a businessman the majority of the time. But when he showed up on the Housewives, he’s like, 'This is the only way I can enjoy it and have fun [laughs].'"
Kyle and Mauricio have spent the better part of nearly three decades building a life together. They have been married for 25 years and have raised four daughters together: Portia, Alexia, Sophia, and Farrah (who is Kyle's daughter from her first marriage). It's clear when you do watch RHOBH, this couple has nothing but love for one another, even after all these years.
"Well, we feel very blessed and grateful, and it’s not something that’s lost on us. You know, we’re like thank God that we still love hanging out together, and now today [when the interview was conducted] he’s like, 'I’m going to the office.' I’m like, 'What do you mean?' He’s like, 'You’re so cute, you get upset when I go to the office,'" Kyle said about Mauricio's work running the real estate firm, The Agency (which is a family business that Farrah and Alexia also work at). "I’m like, 'Because I’m not used to it anymore and, like, you’ve been working out [of the house] every day, I never want you going back to the office.' I like it when we’re all here at the house together."
She is, of course, referring to the fact that Mauricio spent a great deal of time working from home amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. And, Kyle said that spending all that time together caused a shift in the couple's relationship.
"It really did change a lot. I have to say, because we now, we love — I never used to watch TV. Now I love to watch a show with him, which he used to get annoyed [with] because he would watch a show, and I would read my books. So now we get so excited to have a show that we love together. We go to bed early. We wake up early. We worked out, and we really enjoyed that [aspect of] not going out at all, really. And, actually, it’s probably not the best thing in the world, but if I have to go somewhere for work or a friend’s birthday, other than that, we’re not going anywhere, and we really enjoy being home with each other and with our kids," she said. "And if they’re not here, I’ll make him dinner, and he’ll cook for me outside and we sit outside, and we’re really just enjoying that time. And, it’s like, when the quarantine first started, I kept reading people either are going to get divorced or they’re going to get closer. [Or,] they’re either going to be a chef or they’re going to be an alcoholic. I’m like, 'Oh my god, nothing good can come of this.' [laughs] But, it, it worked out for us."
Kyle does have some big plans for how she plans to spend the rest of 2021. She's now focused on how to find a way to squeeze everything in with her work and her family time.
She noted that she "is looking forward to going to Aspen, which we were kind of there part-time. We kind of lived there part-time and just being in the mountains and not wearing high heels, and at work, enjoying quiet family time until things kind of pick back up again [soon]. I do have the movie Halloween [Kills] coming out in October. And I have a new project — but I can’t say what I’m doing yet — but I’m starting that soon, and I’m still doing my clothing line, which, thank God, after the quarantine we’re like up and able to produce the product again, which is very difficult. So trying to find the balance, but [I] really just want some down time right now."
