Lala Reacts to Claims She Became Friends with Stassi and Katie Because It Was "Good for Her"
Tom Sandoval recently questioned the Vanderpump Rules friendship.
Tom Sandoval had a lot to say about the Vanderpump Rules crew when he and Ariana Madix chatted with Scheana Shay in the April 1 episode of her podcast Scheananigans.
The trio, along with Scheana's boyfriend, Brock Davies, discussed how the way the group handles drama has evolved over the years on Vanderpump Rules.
"Watching certain old episodes and stuff, sometimes it's like, oh my god, things were so different, and I think that the fans see this too, it's like, we're not in Lala [Kent]'s wedding, for example. And that's totally fine. That's her wedding, that's her day. You know, have whoever you want in it," Scheana said of her and Ariana. "But it's like, we were the two people who were friends with her first. But now, it's like we're the two people she'll pop off on, and it's never Katie [Maloney-Schwartz] or Stassi [Schroeder]. And I just feel like there's this weird, like, they have a pact to not call each other out or something."
Tom then brought up a bit of gossip he heard about the origins of Lala's friendship with Katie and Stassi. "Well, you know, her publicist said that was definitely a move that she was making," he claimed. "Yeah, like two or three years ago, she decided, made a decision that it was good for her on the show to be friends with Katie and Stassi, not saying that there's not legitimacy in them being friends now."
Andy Cohen had a chance to catch up with Lala via video chat during the April 7 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen: @ Home, and he asked her for her reaction to Tom's comments during the After Show, which you can view, above. "I don't even have a publicist. I am stingy as they come, no one's taking a monthly fee from me to tell me what to do," Lala said. "I'm cheap as they come. That's not happening."
We'll have to wait and see how the SUR squad moves on from this moment, but Ariana expressed her hope that they all handle conflict with more empathy in the future during Scheana's podcast.
"I understand that if you see your friend upset and want to stand up for your friend, I totally understand that. That is a real-life emotion of you don't like to see your friends hurting. But I think that it shouldn't be so black-and-white," she explained on Scheananigans. "Most situations, there's not just clear right and clear wrong; a lot of times there's nuances to it, and somebody might say, 'Yeah, maybe I handled that poorly, but this is what I was going through at the time.' I think that there just has to be a little bit more of talking about the gray area. And I understand if somebody sees their friend upset, wanting to stick up for them, but also not turning it into a gang-up."
