Mohamed Hadid has certainly opened up the gates to his L.A. home before. But now The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills real estate developer and architect is revealing everything about his lavish Bel Air home, which he shares with his longtime love Shiva Safai, inside the pages of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia Interiors. The home is an over-the-top ode to his equally fabulous life, but Yolanda Hadid's ex-husband insists that just because it looks like a grand estate doesn't mean there's no place for fun in it.

“I wanted to have an estate more with modern features but which reflects the many memories I have created all over the world,” he said. “This is not a showcase house. It’s a house that is meant to be lived in and loved.”

Objects from Morocco, Turkey, and Africa, among other places, fill the sandstone 48,000-square-foot Belvédère mansion that sits on 2.2 acres. “All the old French and English homes and palaces incorporated heirlooms that families brought with them from abroad,” he said. “These are things I have accumulated over the years. I find a way to place them in my homes so that they become part of the house.”

While the home is filled with plenty of old-world charm, Mohamed made sure to include nods to the present. "You have to know how to combine the past, the present and modern technology," he said. "You need to have the past flow into the future."

One of Shiva's favorite rooms is a gathering place for their large family, which includes Mohamed's three supermodel kids, Anwar, Gigi and Bella. “The kitchen is the most beautiful I have ever seen and we have this huge walk-in refrigerator,” Shiva said. “This is where we spend a lot of time cooking and hanging out with our friends and family.”

The estate has even been the place for an A-list guest or two to seek sanctuary, including Michael Jackson, who spent time there before his death in 2009. Mohamed recalled, “He didn’t have a home at the time and on Thanksgiving I gave him the house for three days and told him to invite his whole family.”
