"Today the Leakes family is in deep pain with a broken heart. After a long battle with cancer, Gregg Leakes has passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by all of his children, very close loved ones and wife Nene Leakes," a statement from publicist and family friend Ernest Dukes confirmed. "We ask that you pray for peace and strength over their family & allow them to mourn in private during this very very difficult time."

The news comes just days after Nene confirmed that her husband's health had taken a turn for the worse after it was shared that his cancer had returned earlier this summer.

Gregg's Stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis was first confirmed in June 2018. After that, Nene and Gregg had been open about his journey and often shared updates. In an interview with The Daily Dish in November 2018, Nene opened up about the emotional journey of Gregg's cancer diagnosis. "The moment we found out he had cancer, everything about our life changed," she said at the time.

In September 2019, he appeared on The Wendy Williams Show with Nene and confirmed that, at that time, he was cancer-free. However, in June of this year, Nene shared that his cancer had returned then last month Nene addressed Gregg's condition again.

Nene and Gregg married in 1997 and remarried again in 2013 following a brief divorce. Together Nene and Gregg had one son Brentt; they each also had children from previous relationships.
