New Atlanta's Africa Miranda Shares Her Playlist
The pop siren also selects a theme song for her rival Alex Dilworth.
The New Atlanta's resident siren, Africa Miranda, is filling up her iPod with a playlist—or "A List," as she calls it—of tracks we're dying to hear, so we picked her brain about the songs she can't get out of her head lately.
The top artists on her must-hear list right now? Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience, Volumes 1 and 2 ("'Take Back The Night' is very Michael Jackson meets now," she says), fellow Alabaman 2 Chainz, indie-pop act Little Dragon and Katy Perry. "'Roar' is my theme song for the rest of the year," she says. "Maybe into 2014!"
Of her overall aesthetic when it comes to sourcing new tunes, she says, "I love a good mix of like, ratchet and alternative, with, you know, some other kind of weird things mixed in."
Lorde is her Number One at the moment, though, as Africa can't get "Royals" out of her head. "I can't get enough of this record!" she says of Lorde's Pure Heroine. "There's nothing like it on the radio. I love it. It's amazing, and I just love when you hear something, and it's super fresh and new."
And if Africa had to pick a song to represent her fellow The New Atlanta castmates, what would we hear?
"Emily [Lipman] would be 'Hell on Heels,'" she says without skipping a beat. "Vawn [Sims] would probably be the Jay-Z song, 'Tom Ford.' What would Tribble be? Maybe Macklemore's 'Thrift Shop.' Tribble [Reese]'s a little quirky, but he's fun, and he doesn't take himself too seriously."
And what about Alex [Dilworth]? "Is there a song called 'Tragedy?' I'll write one. I'm a songwriter, so maybe that's what it'll be."
