Heather Gay Explains Why She Stays “Mute” During the RHOSLC Drama
The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member said she developed the habit as a “way of avoiding conflict.”
Heather Gay opened up about a particular habit of hers on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on Wednesday, November 30.
The topic arose when Andy asked The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City cast member, “Do you believe you have a pattern of not remembering things? Lisa [Barlow] called you out on it, and it seems like it’s your way of avoiding conflict.”
Her response? “Yeah, 100 percent.”
“It’s called trauma block[ing],” Heather added. “And I do it often.”
Andy agreed with the assessment, noting that the issue “keeps coming up” on RHOSLC. Heather, however, had a simple explanation. As she told him, “The truth is, when I speak with confidence, I’m usually lying. So I just prefer to just stay mute and say, ‘I don't remember.’”
This doesn’t always work in her favor, though. For example, fans have watched Heather struggle to maintain her once-close friendship with Whitney Rose throughout RHOSLC Season 3, and as of right now, they’re not even on speaking terms.
As Whitney put it on The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City After Show, “I wish I would’ve just pumped the brakes and believed her when she said I lost her forever, because I feel pathetic.”
“I’m chasing Heather down all the time and it’s reading as, like, desperate or whatever,” Whitney added. “But I love Heather and I felt like she was a friendship worth fighting for.”
Until she realized she was “being gaslit” by her cousin, that is.
“[Heather]’s so good at, when you’re talking about one thing, she’ll pull in a million other things to distract you from what you’re confronting her about,” Whitney said. “Because she doesn’t want to be confronted.”
