Rosie Pope on Baby Shower Trends
Booze, bros, and strippers in diapers on the rise.
It used to be that baby showers were as appealing to men as... well, baby showers. But Pregnant in Heels star Rosie Pope says the latest trends in baby showers have been a bit dude-centric.
"These guy-friendly events usually involve alcoholic beverages (rather than the usual mocktail menu) and take place in the late afternoon to evening rather than the traditional late morning to early afternoon," Rosie tells iVillage.com. And of course when you bring on the booze, things can get really interesting really fast. "Yes, I'm talking strippers — strippers with diapers!" she says.
We'll let that sink in for a second.
If that's not your cup of chamomile, don't worry -- Rosie also says that classics (and classy) never go out of style. "My other favorite baby shower is a very ladylike, traditional English tea," she explains. "With cucumber sandwiches, scones, a touch of champers for the guests, and of course a traditional English strawberry shortcake."
And if you're stuck on gift ideas, Rosie has suggestions there as well. "I also love it when each guest brings a book for the baby to create a library of books," she shared. She recommends adding a sticker to the inside of the book to write a "wee note for the baby." And for that do-gooder, there's always an alternative. "I'm also seeing a more altruistic approach at baby showers, where gear or money is donated to the mom-to-be's favorite charity in lieu of gifts."
Which shower strategy is right for you - booze and bros, or high tea and shortcake? Pick a side and battle it out.
