Scheana Shay has opened up about her husband Mike Shay's struggle with substance abuse this season of Vanderpump Rules, but welcoming viewers into your life in that way can also leave you vulnerable to criticism. In particular, Scheana has experienced some backlash for the way she's dealing with Shay's addiction on Vanderpump Rules, which the SURver addressed during Monday night's episode of Watch What Happens Live"I think that you don't get the full story when you watch our show, unfortunately," Scheana told one caller during the show. "There are a lot of things that went on off-camera. I was doing everything he wanted and what was best for him."

How to Watch

Scheana also revealed that current status of Shay's sobriety on WWHL. "He hasn't taken a pill in almost a year now," Scheana said. "He does still drink in moderation. He'll have a glass of wine with his mom, a beer with his dad when he watches football, and that hasn't been an issue. So that's what works for him."

WWHL host Andy Cohen then pressed Scheana on some controversial comments she made on Vanderpump Rules earlier this season, saying that it wouldn't be a problem for Shay to drink in moderation. "That was so misconstrued," Scheana explained. "I didn't say that would be good for him. I was just saying if you're going to continue to drink — because we don't feel he's an alcoholic and that isn't the problem — don't drink too much."

She also cleared up what she meant when she said that she couldn't date someone who was sober. "I said I couldn't date someone sober, meaning when I was single and 24, if I met someone who was dead sober, that may not have been my first choice for my lifestyle and friend group at that time, not now," Scheana clarified. "I would 100 percent stay with him, support him, and go sober myself, and I just want to clear that up."

Scheana similarly addressed these statements in a lengthy Instagram post published around Thanksgiving. "I don't know a lot about addiction, that's true. But I do know that he's my entire world," Scheana wrote about her husband in the post. "He's doing what he thinks is best for him now and what makes him happy and I support him 10000000%. I am so f***ing proud of him for everything he has already accomplished and will accomplish in the future!"

Shay showed his gratitude for Scheana's support on Twitter during her WWHL appearance. "I just want to thank you for never giving up on me and being my support system [through] all of this," Shay tweeted. "People can say what they want, but no matter what, you're the reason why I got [through] all of this!"
