Shahs of Sunset Producers Reveal What Really Went on Behind-the-Scenes in Hawaii

Was there trouble in paradise on the Shahs of Sunset cast trip?

Shahs Of Sunset Hawaii Trip

The Shahs of Sunset cast took an unforgettable trip to Hawaii during Season 8, and of course, there was no shortage of drama. Luckily, we've got the inside scoop. The production team took home some secrets from the cast trip and shared them all in an enhanced version of Episode 12 that aired on May 1.

Read on to find out exactly what the producers had to say!

1. Surf's up!

The cast took a stab at a new activity while they were on vacation, and the team definitely got a kick out of it. "Everyone trying to learn to surf was funny," say producers.

Let's just say... a lot of splashing and falling over took place that day.

2. Mike's Reactions

Everyone expresses themselves differently. According to producers, Mike Shouhed's laugh is "part of his way of fighting, being defensive, and insulting people." Mike's reactions definitely differ from some of the other cast members', wouldn't you say?

3. The Hawaiian Home

While the cast was in Hawaii, they stood in a sprawling estate — and everyone had their favorite spots on the property. Nema Vand and Golnesa "GG" Gharachedaghi spent the most time in the hot tub, say producers. Collectively, the gang hung out most at the dining table in the kitchen.

4. An Island of Jokes

At one point in this episode, Mercedes "MJ" Javid made a comment about Persian men that concerned Mike's girlfriend, Paulina Ben-Cohen. It brewed into quite a situation, but producers say they can always tell when MJ's joking. MJ and Reza make Persian jokes a lot, according to producers.

5. Opening Up

Nema shared his thoughts on his ex and past relationships during this episode, and his conversation with the group took a toll on him emotionally. Nema's nurturing side comes out with how "protective" he is over his family, say producers.

6. The Ritual

The ritual was supposed to be a healing experience for the group, but it also brought up a lot of sore points for some cast members. Although it ended much better than it started, the production team was very iffy about the idea in general. On a scale of 1-10, producers were at a "6" with how much of a disaster they were expecting the ritual to be.

7. That Hot Tub Moment

Nema and GG were asked to reenact their steamy hot tub moment using some cardboard dolls — and honestly, it was pretty entertaining. Although GG left her mark on one of the dolls (with some pink lipstick), she didn't keep them. Nema's interview was after hers and he had to use them too.

8. Expect the Unexpected

Hawaii was an adventure for the whole group, and some of the most exciting moments came by surprise to the filming team. Producers say on trips, the gang often comes up with ideas of things they want to do at the last minute.
