Meghan King Edmonds Clarifies Her Comments About Shannon Beador's Marriage Affecting Her Weight Gain
The #RHOC mom chalks the statement up to "word vomit."
Shannon Beador has attributed much of her weight gain to the stress caused by Vicki Gunvalson bringing up allegations about her husband, David Beador, which some people have taken to mean that The Real Housewives of Orange County mom is blaming the OG for her current health struggles.
However, Shannon has taken responsibility for her weight gain, and her good friend Meghan King Edmonds is also coming to her defense. "I don't think she's necessarily blaming it totally on Vicki," Meghan said during Monday's Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen (clip above). "I think she's saying she's had a lot happened to me."
And Meghan offered up an explanation as to what may have played a role in Shannon's weight gain during the latest episode of RHOC. "What Vicki did was bad but not 40 pounds bad," Meghan said in an interview during the episode. "Clearly, there's something else going on with Shannon, like maybe her marriage."
But Meghan seemed to regret making that statement on WWHL. "It was word vomit," she explained. "It really was, because I was just thinking in the back of my head, like what could it possibly be, because it's not obviously all Vicki."
Shannon set the record straight by tweeting at Andy Cohen during Monday's WWHL. "@Andy I never blamed Vicki for my weight gain. Discussed it for the millionth time last week," she tweeted. "Only blame myself. Enough."
She also clarified her comments about Vicki on RHOC during a recent interview with The Daily Dish. "I’ve never blamed Vicki for my weight gain. What I have said is that the stress of her false criminal allegation against my husband is what started the ball rolling. Because for five months, I didn’t know if they were gonna show this allegation, if people were gonna believe it, are people gonna tease my kids at school, are parents not gonna let them come to my house anymore, is my husband’s business gonna suffer? I didn’t know what was gonna happen, and in that five-month period, I was in the dark," Shannon explained. "So that’s when I started eating more, that’s when I started drinking more, that’s when I was crying all the time. So that stress created from that allegation is what started my weight gain ball rolling, but I’m the person that put the food in my mouth and put the cocktails in my mouth, I’m the one that did that. And I take responsibility for it. But the stress caused by her is what started everything, just to set the record straight."
Vicki seemed to think that Shannon was blaming her for her weight gain when she heard the comments she made on RHOC. "Well, again, I'm sorry, Shannon, if you think I'm responsible for your weight gain. I truly am. But I don't believe I am. I believe that her marriage and her situation of exposing her marriage problems on TV was also a contributing factor to the stress," Vicki told The Daily Dish in July. "With stress, you can either gain weight or lose weight, and, unfortunately, she's middle-aged, she's two years younger than me, and we all struggle with weight issues. It is hard as you get older and you go through the change to keep your weight off. So I don't think that's 100 percent my fault. I'm sure stress did cause her to gain some weight. But I can't take the blame for that."
