Stassi Schroeder has broken up with her boyfriend of more than two years Patrick Meagher, the Vanderpump Rules cast member revealed during the latest episode of her Straight Up with Stassi podcast.
During an installment of Ask Stassi, in which the host usually gives advice to listeners, Stassi was joined by her 21-year-old sister Georgi to talk about her decision to finally call it quits with Patrick after they had been on-and-off so many times throughout their relationship. "Because we've broken up and gotten back together so many times, it was like, Godammit, we can't do this pattern anymore, this routine of breaking up and getting back together every month. I can't do it. Like, I can't," Stassi explained. "And so I have to do something to make this official."
So Stassi decided to first break the news on Twitter earlier this month in a tweet that has since been deleted. "I feel like I tweeted it because I deserve and he deserves so much better than this relationship where no one ever knows if we're together or apart," she said. "We deserve something stable or steady."
Stassi said that she and Patrick have constantly tried to work things out over the course of their relationship, with no luck. "It's not about getting rid of Patrick; it's about getting rid of this routine," she said. "We fight all the time."
Though Stassi and Patrick have broken up and gotten back together before, Stassi is convinced that they are over for good now. "The fact that I tweeted it out, it's pretty f***ing done. It's huge," she said. "For me to say that out loud to strangers, to people, for me, it's a big deal. I've never done that. I have kept everything to myself and our family and friends. Like, I don't say anything out loud."
But Stassi said she still has feelings for Patrick. In fact, she always tells him that she still loves him when they break up, which is not something that happened when she ended past relationships. "This is a whole different type of break-up. It's like a whole different type of thing. I didn't lose any feelings for him. None of that changed. It's just, like, I can't handle this. Like, you don't fit into my life. You don't try to fit into my life enough, and we keep fighting, and I can't handle breaking up all the time," Stassi said. "I need to be alone steadily or with somebody steadily."
Throughout the episode, Stassi became audibly choked up and shed some tears as she opened up to her sister and listeners about leaving Patrick. "I don't want advice. Nobody knows what me and Patrick have gone through. No one knows how bad it is, and no one knows how great it is," she said. "So I can't take advice from anyone. All I want is for my friends and family to just listen and let me cry and let me be annoying and let me figure it out on my own."
However, Stassi did appreciate one listener's words of wisdom to think about the kind of person she wants to be in the next five years to help her get through this difficult time. That made Stassi realize that instead of putting that energy into "thinking about my relationship and fighting and getting back together and all of the long conversations and the talks and the stress and the heartache or anxiety that I feel," she should instead "put that energy into making my dreams come true or just what I want my life to be."
Ultimately, Stassi said she wonders that if her relationship with Patrick is in this place now, would it be able to survive in the future? "Normally, when we've broken up, I don't get that upset because I feel like it's going to be OK, you know what I mean? I don't feel that way. I'm trying to be an independent, strong, 28-year-old woman who doesn't want to settle for this weird pattern. And it's not about settling for him. He's a wonderful man. Nobody would be settling by being with him. It's settling for the way that we are together. I can't settle for that," Stassi closed out the episode. "Both our parents have been married, like, 409 times. I don't want that. I don't want to have to do that. If I'm having this pattern with him now, and it's been like this for a long time, like a long, long time, what do you think it's going to be like 10 years from now when shit's not as exciting anymore? Or 20 years from now?"
Earlier this month, Stassi also opened up about her past relationship with ex Jax Taylor on her podcast. See why this was a "monumental moment," below.
