UPDATE (SEPTEMBER 18, 12:56 P.M.): Jill said she was "inconsolable" as she opened up about her decision top put Ginger down amid her recent health issues on Monday in an emotional interview with PEOPLE. “I didn’t want her to suffer,” she told PEOPLE, just hours after the procedure. “I know it’s the right thing to do but I’m just so sad.”

Jill also said that she thought that her late husband Bobby must have had a hand in keeping Ginger alive as long as she lived, sharing that "she loved Bobby the most." “I thought she was going to die a few months ago,” she told PEOPLE. “Bobby made sure she stayed with me long enough to make sure I’m OK. She’s going to go to heaven tonight. She’s going home to be with her Daddy.”

Jill Zarin has said goodbye to another loved one. The Real Housewives of New York City alum's dog Ginger, who was right by Jill's side during her time on RHONY, has passed away.

Jill confirmed the news in a post on Instagram Monday. "We love you so much but knowing that you will be with daddy brings us peace," Jill wrote in a post on Instagram, referring to her late husband, Bobby Zarin, who passed away in January. "You will always be with me my sweet Ginger. I love you."

Jill previously shared in May that Ginger, who had gone completely blind, had experienced some scary episodes in which she almost drowned twice this year. She later asked fans for prayers for her Chihuahua after Ginger had suffered a stroke at the end of August.

The RHONY alum then shared on Instagram on September 15 that Ginger was nearing the end of her life, and Jill was spending time with all of her beloved pups. "I spent the last 5 days 24/7 in my apartment with Ginger, Bossi and Chicken. I want Ginger's last days alone with me. I will never forget you my Ginger girl. I’ve been off social media and didn’t go to any fashion shows or parties because I know this is Ginger's time to go be with her Daddy. He left her here for me to help me so I wouldn’t be alone. Bobby knows I am ok and we can’t let her suffer," Jill captioned a post featuring photos of her cuddling with Ginger. "She had a stroke, went blind, almost drowned twice and now has metastatic cancer. She can’t keep her food down. Her left front paw is limp from the stroke and we can’t let her suffer anymore. She will be surrounded with love from us and all of you who have prayed for her and my family and I will never be able to repay the favor but know how grateful we are."
