Thomas Ravenel: I'm Running for Office Again

The Southern Charm star reveals his political ambitions after serving time for drug bust.

By Jordan Upmalis

What's red, white, and controversial all over? Last night's episode of Watch What Happens Live, of course!

How to Watch

Watch Southern Charm on Peacock and the Bravo App.

Southern Charm stars Cameran Eubanks, Shepard "Shep" Rose, and Thomas Ravenel joined Andy Cohen in the Clubhouse, and following a highly dramatic episode there seemed to be a reason for some Mazels.

As former State Treasurer of the Palmetto State, Thomas' star was seemingly shining bright. That is, until he was indicted on federal cocaine distribution charges. But now he has a new lease on life—and he's setting his sights on political office once again.

"Thomas, you know, everybody wants to know if you have any thoughts of getting back into politics. You actually have something to say for real tonight," Andy said. "Yeah, I would love to run for the United States senate," Thomas responded. "I ran once, I lost by one point to social conservative Jim DeMint, and should the current U.S. senator Lindsey Graham be the nominee, I'm going to throw my hat into the ring as an independent candidate because I think that the voters need the opportunity to have a choice, an actual choice."

Thomas is clearly no stranger to being in the public eye—especially now with his exposure on Southern Charm. And Andy Cohen wasted no time in getting to the hard hitting questions. "Will the time on the show hurt you or help you?" he asked. "I'm hoping it'll help me," Thomas said. "Question I should be putting to you!" Fair enough.

And what about his time spent behind bars? "I don't see how it could help, how could it?" Thomas admitted. But the office-heading-hopeful tried to look on the bright side. "Once you've done your time, you've done your time. It shouldn't haunt you the rest of your life."

Would you vote for Thomas in the next South Carolina Senate election? Let us know in the comments below.
