Alexia Nepola Reveals If She Was Offended Gizelle Bryant Asked Her to Stop Speaking Spanish
Miami 'Wife Alexia Nepola told Andy Cohen she was caught "off guard" during an awkward moment on Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip Season 3.
Ay dios mío, what did The Real Housewives of Miami's Alexia Nepola just say? Well, we won’t be asking Gizelle Bryant of The Real Housewives of Potomac any time soon.
Alexia appeared on the Monday, April 3 episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen (alongside XSCAPE’s Tamika Scott of SWV & XSCAPE: The Queens of R&B) to discuss filming Season 3 of The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip with Gizelle and a few other ‘Wives in Thailand. One Twitter user asked if she was offended that Gizelle asked her and Marysol Patton to stop speaking Spanish while in Gizelle’s company.
“I wasn’t really offended; it just caught me off guard,” said Alexia. “I was like, ‘Why would you say this, and why would you want me not to speak Spanish?’”
The issue began on RHUGT’s Season 3 premiere, when the ladies’ concierge, Pepsi, brought the ‘Wives to the villa’s spirit house. There, Alexia, Marysol, Gizelle, and the other ‘Wives — including RHOP’s Candiace Dillard Bassett, The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’s Whitney Rose and Heather Gay, The Real Housewives of New York City’s Leah McSweeney, and The Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Porsha Williams — were asked to pay honor as part of a spiritual Thai tradition.
“That was from my soul,” Alexia explained to Marysol in Spanglish, a mix of Spanish and English. The series, however, had its own (hilarious) translations for how Gizelle construed what they were saying.
“OK, no; I have a rule,” Gizelle protested. “No Spanish.”
“I have a rule for you, Gizelle,” Marysol later told producers, equipped with a rhinestone-studded martini glass. “I make my own rules.”
The subject came up later in the evening when the women headed to Three Monkeys Phuket for a sit-down dinner. There, the Miami ‘Wives discussed what they were drinking in Spanish, much to Gizelle’s objections.
Alexia and Maysol explained that speaking in and out of languages was unintentional and merely part of how they communicated back in Miami, but Gizelle felt excluded. The Miami ‘Wives reassured Gizelle that they were not saying anything negative against anyone in the group.

During a later game where the ladies exchanged who made the best and worst impressions on their first day in Thailand, Marysol said the disagreement over their Spanglish-speaking ways gave her the worst impression of Gizelle.
“My twins are proficient in Spanish,” Gizelle defended. “So, they do it all the time in front of me, and they talk about me … it just pisses me off because they know that they’re keeping me out, and they’re doing it on purpose.”
Ultimately, Gizelle apologized for trying to prevent Alexia and Marysol from speaking Spanglish.
On WWHL, Alexia reiterated she and Marysol’s non-English correspondence had nothing to do with Gizelle and that Spanglish was “a Marysol and I thing” and “a very Miami thing where we go from English to Spanish.”
“After getting to know her [Gizelle], I wasn’t offended by it,” Alexia told Andy.
Later on WWHL, Andy gave Alexia the floor to list her five favorite Spanglish sayings in a game of “Watch What Happens Five,” which included made-up-on-the-spot phrases about vapor rub (in honor of Andy’s cold) and checking her messages.
